Maggie with
Hobbes

Hans
It was 9:00 PM, the night after Halloween. Almost all the kids in the neighborhood stood there in the dark, gasping with anticipation every time a car turned the corner onto our street. I couldn’t wait until one of those cars was my mom’s, bringing home our adorable little puppy, named Hobbes.

Jamie and Lexie

Jamie and Lexie

I spent the previous summer working and saving for a puppy so I was able to use my earnings to buy a Farmdog from Carol, Lexie's breeder. I came up with half the money and my parents decided that I was responsible enough to care for a dog so they paid for the other half and we prepared to bring Lexie home. I kept a countdown of the days it would be until Lexie was old enough. I still remember the day we got to go to Carol's home and see Annika and five cute, little puppies.

Jara, Daphne and Maddy

Jera has been very dedicated to the training of Daphne. Even before he got Daphne, we talked about dog training. Jera and his Mother read books together about dog training. I.e. they read the book "Before and After Getting Your Puppy" by Ian Dunbar.

A teen making a Difference for Throw Away Pets

Kenlyn's deep love of animals inspired her to look for an opportunity to help discarded and abandon pets. After contacting several humane societies where she hoped she could volunteer and being refused because she is not yet 18 years old, Kenlyn and her mom, Susan, were introduced to the Friends of Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority (SVACA), a support organization for a local animal shelter.

One of the best things about having a Danish/Swedish Farmdog is the people you get to know as a result. We like to feature a diferent farmdog or special person each month.  Please check the members only site to learn more about our special Farmdogs.

Please tell us about your special Farmdog. A form is posted in the Submission Forms Section of the Members Only site. This will give you some ideas to help you write about your dog(s).

Questions:

  1. Tell us about your family.

  2. What is your occupation, do you stay at home or are you retired?

  3. Who is/are your Farmdog/s?

  4. What is your Farmdog/s' registered name/s?

  5. How did you choose your Farmdog/s' name/s?

  6. How did you learn about Farmdogs?

  7. When/how did your Farmdog/s come into your family?

  8. What activities do you enjoy with your dog/s-they don't have to be organized activities, walks, balls, hide and seek, etc. are all fun.

  9. What is/are your favorite thing/s about your dog/s?

  10. Do your dog/s have a favorite toy/s?

  11. Do your dog/s dislike anything such as baths, toenail trims, tooth brushing, etc?

  12. Do your dog/s have any behaviors that you find comical or especially endearing?

  14. Everything and anything else you would like to share.

AnnaHappy New Year 2009 New Home in Edmonds, WA.

Flora's Lady Eva Annelise

Anna is the 10th Danish/Swedish Farmdog to be born in the United States. Her father, Flora’s Han Solo, is the first Danish/Swedish Farmdog born in United States and her grandmother Flora is the first breeding female to come to this country. Anna’s litter was the first to be conceived on US soil. Words cannot express how blessed I feel to share my life with this wonderful companion and to have been able to be a part of such a small and select group of people that live with Danish/Swedish Farmdogs.

Life is good, and even better living with a Farmdog!

Winther's Dot

Famous Words: “No More Dogs”

I know lots of folks utter that statement; my husband, Ray, and I thought we meant it back in 2001. We had an aging Sheltie, Dulcinea, and figured when she died and we finally retired we could travel without the worry of doggie care. You know – option 1) traveling with your pet and the limitations --no cars in hot sun, “dining” in car parked hopefully under shade tree, no fancy hotels … or option 2) hiring expensive and trustworthy pet sitters only to suffer anxiety and loneliness when you leave part of the family behind.

Little Denmark's Delightful Daphne

Hi, I’m a Jera and I have a Danish Swedish Farmdog named Daphne. Well I might as well get to the point and tell my story. One day I woke up and my mom told me she had a dream, a dream about a dog. She said she might want to get a dog and I was up for the idea. It sounded like so much fun and so perfect. But could my mom really be serious about getting a dog? So my Mom searched on the internet for a few months looking for the prefect breed. I helped her look, I guess she was serious which was good because now I would have someone to play with and listen to my feelings since I’m an only child.

Frisco

Frisco - Tail Waggin TutorsAnnika's Joaquin, TDI

Danish-Swedish Farmdogs can do many things. One of the most rewarding things Frisco and I have had the pleasure of getting involved with is Therapy dog work. We are sponsored by Therapy Dogs International. (TDI)

Farmdogs are natural for this because of the great temperament they have, and their great desire to please. Only dogs that can pass a 10 part test on obedience and temperament can become certified as therapy dogs.

Lexi

SealPacific Rim's Bolinas Cloud

I love to play, like all my Farmdogs friends since the moment I came to live in the Hunt family home.  When I was a young pup, we used to play hide and seek games. My mom thinks that she was training me to achieve a good recall.  Now, I play a lot of tug and chase.  One of my funniest moves is what the family calls the “Seal”. You can see it here with a balloon.  Mom has been teaching me to do it on command.  When I was a little pup we did many rounds of obedience training, then moved on to agility.

Helene and Maddy, 2007
The winning Farmdog gets it's name engraved on an ever wandering trophy.

Helene and Maddy have worked very hard and long for this title, and both deserved the honors. A small Danish/Swedish Farmdog from Wyoming is brings the trophy cross Atlantic to the United States. And we are all very proud.

Polly Polly

Bodilius Polly Sherman Tilly

We no longer have our own identities. We are now knows as Polly's family.

Polly graced our family in October, 2007. After a year of considering if a dog would fit into our life, we took the plunge. We have been a dual Maine Coon Cat family for 15 years so was concerned about adding a canine to the mix. We have been pleasantly surprised by our 16 pound entertainer.

Skoen

Kenlyn and SkoenAnnika's Mateo

When I was in 2nd grade and seven years old, my sister and I finally convinced my parents to get a dog.  My Dad researched all kinds of breeds.  Finally we came upon Danish Swedish Farmdogs.  The breed sounded perfect for your family!

Skoen (our Danish Swedish Farmdog) has been a perfect fit for our athletic, busy life.  Skoen loves to ride in the car, which makes our lives easier.  Skoen is very energetic but he calms down and loves to take naps too.  He adores sleeping under the covers in winter to keep warm.  Skoen enjoys going on walks, but won’t budge in severe heat. Skoen is a lovable, adorable and easy dog to have in the family.  We love him!

Soonja was a Tri color Farmdog from Kennel Flora and the 5th Danish/Swedish Farmdog born in the United States. She was from Flora’s second litter (Sire: My Bonnie Magnus Den Modige / Dam: Agerhonen's Flora Flode-Karmel). Soonja was born in California but lived her short life in Powder Springs, Georgia. In 2006 she took a little trip up to Alaska where she fell in love and started a family with Østbroen's Ursa Major, “Major”. They had three puppies: Austin, Clover and Dash.

Tilly

Tilly Flora's Matilde

From the moment she was born I knew she was special.  So tiny yet so mighty from the very beginning, I knew she could have no other name but Matilde, meaning mighty in battle.  Matilde was one of the last of Flora’s second litter to leave home because I was saving her for a family that would put her to work.  If ever there was a puppy that needed work, it was Matilde.  Not just any family would be able to provide this puppy what she needed, what she craved, but Phil and Sue were up for the challenge.
