Amazingly, although they
were a rare breed, there were Farmdogs within an hour’s drive
so we decided to go and see a few Farmdogs in person.
I had spent the previous summer working
and saving for a puppy so I was able to use my earnings to buy a Farmdog
from Carol, Lexie's breeder. I came up with half the money and my parents
decided that I was responsible enough to care for a dog so they paid
for the other half and we prepared to bring Lexie home. I kept a countdown
of the days it would be until Lexie was old enough. I still remember
the day we got to go to Carol's home and see Annika and five
cute, little puppies. My brothers and I let them crawl all over
us and enjoyed every minute of it.
When we were lucky enough to get to take Lexie home, my family
was overjoyed! We quickly trained our little puppy who was more
than eager to learn. Not long after, she won her first of many
ribbons! We continued to enjoy her obedient and loving personality
so we decided to breed her. I don't think we've ever had as
much excitement and energy in our house as we did with her first
litter, the California litter of six. Number six was a surprise
because the vet had told us Lexie was expecting five puppies.
Although it was a lot of work, we hope to be able to breed her
again because it exceeded our expectations.
